The Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of projects to be bid. He or she prepares bids, selects vendors/subcontractors, and estimates self-perform crew compositions and production rates. He or she performs quantity take-offs using a complete and detailed understanding of the project scope.
Required Skills & Experience
At least 5 years of experience:
- Estimator working on Earthwork, Grading or Underground Projects
-Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline is preferred
- Field operations experience is strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word
- Software knowledge: Hard Dollar, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Agtek, and HCSS (Heavy Bid)
- Quantify project components assigned by the lead estimator
- Perform earthwork and underground (stormwater and wet utility) takeoffs and pricing for heavy civil projects
- Work with other estimating team members to build the estimate, then price assigned items in Hard Dollar
- Provide accurate take-offs - Analyze and enter quotes into Hard Dollar
- Handle solicitation of subcontractors and vendors for their discipline of work
